Other Uses
The heartwood is a dark, olive-brown; the sapwood is light brown. The wood is very hard, the texture close and homogeneous. There is an unpleasant smell from the wood when freshly felled. The heartwood of old trees that have died naturally and fallen in the forest, however, become pleasantly scented with the passage of time. This scented wood is used as a cosmetic and in other uses where fragrance is required, as well as in the funeral pyres of Buddhists, Hindus etc and as a cheaper substitute for sanalwood (Santalum species)[
