Mallotus nudiflorus is a deciduous tree growing up to 30 metres tall. The straight bole can be 50 - 80cm in diameter, it is often short, but on good sites can be long, it is often much buttressed at the base[

A plant of the moist to wet tropics, where it is found at elevations up to metres. It grows best in areas where annual daytime temperatures are within the range 25 - 37°c, but can tolerate 12 - 42°c[
]. When dormant, the plant can survive temperatures down to about -5°c, but young growth can be severely damaged at 0°c[
]. It prefers a mean annual rainfall in the range 2,000 - 4,000mm, but tolerates 1,000 - 5,100mm[
].
Prefers a position in full sun, tolerating light shade[
]. Succeeds in a fertile, moist to wet soil, preferring sandy to loamy soils but tolerating clayey soils[
]. Prefers a pH in the range 5.5 - 6.5, tolerating 4.5 - 7[
].
Yearly volume production potential of the wood is about 15 - 30 cubic metres per hectare[
