The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine.
Litsea vitiana is found in a number of localities in Fiji. Although there is a decline in population as well as a loss of quality of habitat caused by deforestation and habitat destruction through conversion to agriculture and plantations, these are not currently considered to be significant threats. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2020)[
