General Information

Lamanonia ternata is a semideciduous tree with a dense, ellipsoid crown; it can grow from 12 - 16 metres tall. The short bole can be 40 - 60cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for medicinal purposes and for its timber. A very ornamental tree, especially when in bloom, it can be used in general landscaping[].

Cultivation Details

A plant of medium elevations in the tropics.
Prefers a sunny position[].

Other Uses

The wood is soft, moderately heavy, easy to work and with medium durability when exposed to the elements[]. It is used in furniture making, general carpentry, canoe making etc[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe. The seeds are very small and light - they should be sown in a semi-shaded position in a nursery seedbed and only just covered with soil. Germination rates are generally very poor, with less than 10% germinating in 20 - 30 days[].
