General Information

Kielmeyera rubriflora is a deciduous shrub or small tree with a longish, sparse crown; it can grow 4 - 5 metres tall. The crooked bole can be 15 - 25cm in diameter, it has a thick, corky bark and usually forms branches from near the ground[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. Extremely ornamental, being valued especially for its dainty white flowers, the tree is suitable for use in landscaping. Its slow growth and difficulty in reproduction are rather a drawback, though[].

Other Uses

The wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, soft to cut, with poor mechanical properties and not very durable. Because of its small dimensions it is only used for light cabinet making.

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 60 - 90 days[].
