Crassulaceae
This species has often been treated in the literature as Bryophyllum proliferum Bowie ex Hook. However, recent research such as Descoings B. 2006 Le genre Kalanchoe (Crassulaceae) : structure et definition. J. Bot. Soc. Bot. France 33. 3-28. has supported combining the three genera (Bryophyllum, Kitchingia and Kalanchoe) into the single genus Kalanchoe.

Kalanchoe prolifera is an erect, succulent, evergreen perennial growing from 50 - 300cm tall. The erect stems become more or less woody, especially at the base, but are little-branched. The plant spreads by means of underground stolons to form clumps[

The plant spreads by means of underground stolons. In addition, young plantlets frequently develop at the bases of the pedicels and from the marginal crenations and the midrib of the leaflets (either still attached to the plant or not).
