General Information

Jacaranda macrantha is a deciduous tree with an upright, columnar crown; it can grow from 2 - 12 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be 20 - 30cm in diameter[, ].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It is often found in secondary growth areas and can be used as a pioneer for restoring woodland. A very ornamental tree, especially when in bloom, it is planted in gardens, parks etc[].

Other Uses

The heartwood and sapwood are not differentiated. The wood is moderately heavy, soft to cut, not very compact and of low natural durability. It is used for interior work in construction for purposes such as wainscots and internal divisions; furniture making, musical instruments, wooden soles, carpentry and general cabinet making[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A high germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 10 - 20 days[]. When the seedlings are around 4cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 5 - 6 months later[].
The seed has a viability of less than 4 months in storage[].
