General Information

Jacaranda cuspidifolia is a deciduous tree with a wide, globose crown; it can grow around 5 - 15 metres tall with a bole that can be 30 - 40cm in diameter[, , ].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine and source of wood. It has been recommended for use as a pioneer species to re-establish native woodland snd is a very ornamental tree, especially when in bloom, that is often grown in gardens, parks etc[, ].
Jacaranda cuspidifolia is common within its native range and is not experiencing any significant global threats, even though locally there may be some threats, such as in eastern Bolivia with seasonal fires. On a global level the plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2020)[].

A poultice of the leaves has been used to treat leishmaniasis and venereal diseases[].

Agroforestry Uses:

A pioneer species in its native habitat, it has been recommended for use in the reforestation of degraded areas[].

The wood is light in weight, soft, of medium durability if kept dry. It can be used in cabinet making[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. A germination rate in excess of 80% can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 12 - 25 days[]. When the seedlings are 3 - 6cm tall, pot them up into individual containers and they should be ready to plant out 4 - 6 months later[].
The seed has a viability of less than 4 months in storage[].
