General Information

Hydriastele procera is a solitary stemmed, robust, evergreen palm with an unbranched stem up to 30 metres tall and 20 - 30cm in diameter; it is topped by a spherical crown of 10 - 15 leaves, each of which can be 2 - 4 metres long including the petiole[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of materials.
There is no known information on the population size of Hydriastele procera and more data are needed about the range and abundance of this species. The plant is classified as 'Data Deficient' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].
