General Information
Hydriastele flabellata is a clustering, evergreen palm foring a clump of very slender, unbranched stems up to 4 metres tall and 1 - 2cm in diameter. Each stem is topped by a crown of 4 - 8 leaves that are 35 - 90cm long including the petiole[

Hydriastele flabellata has a widespread but scattered distribution across New Guinea and there are no known direct threats. However deforestation is occurring across New Guinea and is driven by subsistence agriculture, commercial logging, plantations and mining, and this could have an impact in the future. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[
