The heartwood is pale yellow to light brown darkening very rapidly on exposure, sometimes with narrow, irregular greenish streaks which in drying turn greenish black; it is not clearly demarcated from the 2 - 8cm wide band of lighter-coloured sapwood. The texture is fine to very fine; the grain is interlocked; there is a slightly sour odour. The woods is very hard; very heavy; strong, tough and very durable[
