The heartwood is yellowish-white, sometimes with darker stripes; it is not demarcated from the sapwood. The texture is fine; the grain straight or interlocked; lustre dull. The wood is very hard and durable, being fairly resistant to marine borer attack and said to last 5 years or more in the ground. It is used locally to make tool handles and poles for hut-posts[
