Other Uses

The heartwood is red, red-brown to dark red-brown; it is not clearly demarcated from the 1 - 5cm wide band of white to pale-red sapwood. The texture is slightly to moderately coarse but even; the grain straight to shallowly interlocked. The wood is strong; moderately hard; non-durable in exposed positions, though easy to treat with preservatives; subject to attack by Lyctus beetles. It seasons fairly rapidly, shrinkage is high and there can be slight cupping, end and surface checking. It is difficult to saw; slightly difficult to plane, but it can produce a smooth finish; nailing properties are good. The wood is used for flooring, interior finishing, furniture, panelling, general planking, plywood manufacture and glue-lamination[
