General Information
Garuga is a deciduous tree growing up to 18 metres tall, with bark pealing off in flakes.
The tree is cultivated in home gardens in India for its edible fruit and also as a support for Piper nigrum[
].

A plant of the moist tropics, where it is found at elevations from 400 - 1,200 metres. It grows best in areas where annual daytime temperatures are within the range 30 - 42°c, but can tolerate 7 - 47°c[

]. It prefers a mean annual rainfall in the range 1,500 - 2,000mm, but tolerates 1,000 - 2,500mm[
