General Information

Fraunhofera multiflora is a deciduous tree with an open, small, rounded crown; it can grow 6 - 8 metres tall. The cylindrical bole can be 20 - 30cm in diameter[].
The tree is harvested from the wild for its good quality wood. An ornamental tree with an attractive trunk, it can be used in general landscaping[].

Cultivation Details

A plant of the 'Caatinga' dry forest region of northeast Brazil. The climate is hot and dry, there are usually 6 to 11 months without rain each year. The mean annual rainfall varies from 250 - 1,000mm, and the mean annual temperature is from 24 - 26°c.

Other Uses

The heartwood is not clearly demarcated from the sapwood. The wood is straight-grained, heavy, difficult to cut, with moderate durability. It is used in making furniture, cabinet making, for agricultural implements etc[].

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a sunny position in a nursery seedbed. A very low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting after 60 days or more[].
