Common Name:

General Information

Erythrophleum fordii is a tree usually growing around 10 metres tall, but with some specimens up to 30 metres[].
A valuable and much used timber, the tree is intensively logged from the wild and commercial plantations have been established[, ].
Chinese subpopulations are largely reduced to individual trees left standing around living areas, whilst plantations are not enough to satisfy demand for the wood, therefore the tree has been listed as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2009)[].

Known Hazards

Although we have seen no specific information for this plant, most, if not all members of this genus contain toxic alkaloids in all their parts[].

Tannin is obtained from the wood[]. Obtained from the bark, it is used for dyeing fabrics[].
