Dysoxylum malabaricum is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 30 - 40 metres tall, sometimes even more. The straight bole can be free of branches for more than three quarters of the tree's height and 100cm in diameter[

The tree is much exploited from the wild and natural regeneration is poor. Although this species has not yet been assessed by the IUCN Red List, it is has already been categorized as Endangered under the Indian National Threat Assessment using the same criteria as the IUCN[

Propagation
Seed - sow fresh in a nursery bed with a sand to soil ratio of 3:1. Germination of around 50% should take place within 70 days. Seedlings can reach 30 - 35cm tall within 12 months and are then ready to plant out in the field[
