Dypsis perrieri is a single-stemmed, stocky evergreen palm growing up to 8 metres tall. The unbranched stem can be 20cm or more in diameter, topped bu a crown of erect leaves that can be 4 metres or more long[

This species is not common, the whole population is estimated to comprise 300 individuals and is decreasing. The main threat to this species is habitat loss through clearance for shifting agriculture and logging. Trees are also occasionally felled for the edible palm heart.The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[
