Dryopteris wallichiana
(Spreng.) Hyl.
Dryopteridaceae
There seems considerable confusion over the correct name for this species. Either there is one, pantropical, species which could be named Dryopteris wallichiana or Dryopteris paleacea according to which botanist you want to believe; or there are two distinct species - in which case the name for the Old World element is Dryopteris wallichiana whilst that for the New World element is either Dryopteris paleacea or Dryopteris parallelogramma[

Many ferns also contain thiaminase, an enzyme that robs the body of its vitamin B complex. In small quantities this enzyme will do no harm to people eating an adequate diet that is rich in vitamin B, though large quantities can cause severe health problems. The enzyme is destroyed by heat or thorough drying, so cooking the plant will remove the thiaminase[
