This species is predominantly distributed in high elevation swamp grassland to cloud forest ecotone, where no commercial logging takes place. Trees at lower elevations may be more at risk of being logged, but quantitative data are very difficult to obtain as no distinction is made between the species of Dacrycarpus or even other podocarps when logged.The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[

The wood from the various species of Dacrycarpus is very similar and is generally lumped together as 'podocarpus wood'.. The only description we have is for Dacrycarpus imbricatus, which is as follows:-
