General Information

Cyperus chordorrhizus is a perennial, grass-like plant with long, creeping rhizomes up to 5 metres long; it produces clusters of very narrow leaves about 1 - 11cm long and flowering stems to 26cm[, ].
The plant is an effective soil stabilizer and revegetator on coastal dunes.
The population of Cyperus chordorrhizus is severely fragmented and there is likely to be continuing decline in the extent and quality of the habitat due to human activities, including residential development and recreational activities. The plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].
