The heartwood is dark red; not clearly demarcated from the lighter coloured sapwood. The corewood in older branches is brown-black or chocolate. The surface is not lustrous; texture is moderately fine and even, the grain spiral or shallowly interlocked. The wood is heavy and moderately durable. It is difficult to resaw and cross-cut; planing is easy to slightly difficult and planed surfaces are moderately smooth; poor nailing property[
