General Information

Cyathea vieillardii is a relatively fast-growing (for a fern!), evergreen tree fern that can reach a height of 5 metres with an upright crown of fronds and a stem that can be 20cm thick.
The plant is sometimes gathered from the wild for local use as a food.

Known Hazards

Although we have found no reports of toxicity for this species, a number of ferns contain carcinogens so some caution is advisable[

In small quantities this enzyme will do no harm to people eating an adequate diet that is rich in vitamin B, though large quantities can cause severe health problems.
