General Information

Cryptocarya aschersoniana is an evergreen tree with a dense, wide, globose crown; it can grow 15 - 25 metres tall. The bole can be 70 - 90cm in diameter, with a thick, exfoliating bark[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for its wood, which is used locally. A good shade tree, it could be used in landscaping[].

Other Uses

The wood is medium-textured, straight-grained, moderately heavy, with moderate mechanical properties and low durability, being prone to the attack of wood-eating organisms. It is hard to saw, but is used for internal finishes, frames, beams, ceilings, laths, base boards, fencing etc[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed or in individual containers. A low germination rate can usually be expected, with the seed sprouting within 30 - 70 days[].
The seed has a viability of less than 60 days in storage[].
