The plant is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood.
Cordia schatziana has a very restricted range in Madagascar, where it grows in anthropic vegetation and currently is only known to occur in two distinct areas. Continuing decline is projected because of habitat destruction due to land conversion, logging and fire. The distribution of this species is also severely fragmented. The plant is classified as 'Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[
