General Information

Cordia panamensis is a deciduous tree usually growing 5 - 10 metres tall, but exceptionally to 15 metres[, ].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood and edible fruit[].
Cordia panamensis has a very wide distribution, large population, is not currently experiencing any major
threats and no significant future threats have been identified. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw[, ]. The pulp is gelatinous[]. The whitish fruits are about 10mm in diameter[].

The wood is used for fence posts and making tool handles[]. It is used in traditional house construction[].
The wood of most species in this genus is hard and, where the plants grow large enough, the wood is often harvested at least locally for use in construction etc and also for making charcoal[].
