General Information

Cordia goetzei is a small tree, occasionally a scandent shrub, usually growing around 2 - 15 metres tall, occasionally reaching 18 metres. The trunk and branches are irregularly fluted, often square in section, and sometimes with buttresses[, ].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine.

Cultivation Details

The flowers are sweetly scented[].
The plant is effectively dioecious, both male and female forms will need to be grown if fruit and seed are required[].

Edible Uses

The ovoid-conical, glabrous, orange fruit is around 8 - 19mm x 6 - 13 mm, containing a single large seed[].
Although we have seen no specific information for this species, the fruits of most Cordia species are comprised of a thin to fairly thick layer of pulpy, sweetish-tasting flesh surrounding a single seed and are more or less edible[, ], (though some are known to cause gastric disturbances).

Medicinal

A decoction prepared from the leaves and roots is used to treat leprosy and malaria[].
