Chamaecrista scleroxylon is a tree that usually grows around 20 - 30 metres tall[].
The tree is highly valued for its high-density wood, which is used to make musical instruments. It is selectively harvested from the forest for trade.
Chamaecrista scleroxylon produces a high density wood that is widely used in the manufacture of musical instruments and, even though the tree is considered one of the most abundant species within its native range, selective cutting together with a significant reduction in the extent and quality of the Amazonian forest ecosystems, can make the species vulnerable in the future. The plant is classified as 'Near Threatened' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2021)[].
