Other Uses
The wood is a uniform red-brown colour, with no clear demarcation between the heartwood and the thick band of sapwood. The heartwood darkens a little upon exposure to the air. The wood is fine and close-grained, with a satiny lustre, free of odour and taste when dry. It is a tough wood of medium weight and hardness. It is rather hard to saw; takes nails fairly well; planes easily and well; turns moderately easily and finishes indifferently. A prettily-marked wood resembling Maple, with which it might compete in the matter of appearance, it can be used for making furniture[
