General Information

Celtis rigescens is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 45 metres tall. The straight bole can be free of branches for up to 20 metres, up to 120cm in diameter, with buttresses that can be up to 600cm tall, 300cm out and 5cm thick[, ].
The tree is commonly harvested from the wild for its wood, which is traded[].
Celtis rigescens is very widespread, ranging from Malaysia to New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, and it is therefore assumed that population is large. It is suspected that the population is potentially in decline in some areas due to deforestation within the region, though a survey needs to be undertaken to assess the situation more clearly. The plant is classified as 'Least Concern' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2018)[].
