General Information

Cassia hippophallus is a deciduous shrub or tree, usually growing up to 15 metres tall, occasionally to 20 metres. The bole is up to 50cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood. It is also reported as having medicinal properties.

Habitat

Deciduous woodland and open scrubland, at elevations up to 500 metres, occasionally to 1,150 metres. It is often found in margins of woodland, where it is subject to regular fires. It has been recorded on sandy, clayey and limestone soils[].
