General Information

Buchanania vitiensis is a tree that can grow around 8 - 18 metres tall with a bole up to 40cm in diameter[, ].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use of its wood.
The distribution of Buchanania vitiensis extends over multiple islands, but the population size is estimated to be less than 10,000 mature individuals and there are less than 1,000 mature individuals in each subpopulation. There is also a continuing decline in the population size due to habitat loss from coastal development and logging as this is a timber species. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2019)[].
