This tree has, at times, been classified as a subspecies of Brachystegia tamarindoides (a species found in Angola). The uses below from [] were listed under Brachystegia tamarindoides, but were recorded in East Africa, where Brachystegia tamarindoides is not found. It is, therefore, assumed that this is the correct species referred to[].

General Information

Brachystegia microphylla is a semideciduous tree with a flat-topped crown; it can grow 3 - 35 metres tall. The bole can be 50 - 150cm in diameter[, ].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of fibre and wood.

The bark is very fibrous[]. After being boiled and prepared, it is made into white sheets of cloth. It is also used to make canoes, boxes, matches, and ropes[].
