The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a source of fuel and possibly also as a medicine..
Annona salicifolia is endemic to Haiti, where it is restricted to one known location. Ongoing deforestation is leading to a further loss of habitat and a decline in habitat quality. The plant is classified as 'Critically Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2020)[].

Annona salicifolia is native to lowland subtropical rainforest, where the mean annual rainfall is in the range 3,200 - 3,600mm[].
The plant grows in the wild on soils that are derived from hard and soft limestones and are occasionally mixed with laterites, bauxites and basalts[].
