General Information

Annona haitiensis is a shrub growing around 2 metres tall[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a fuel and possibly also as a medicine.
Annona haitiensis has a small range and has only been found in six localities. Ongoing deforestation is leading to a loss of habitat, decline in habitat quality and fragmentation of existing populations. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2020)[].

Cultivation Details

Annona haitiensis is a plant of the seasonally dry to moist tropics, with a mean annual rainfall in the range 1,000 - 2,400mm[].
The plant grows in the wild on soils that are derived from hard and soft limestones and occasionally mixed with laterites, bauxites, basalts and peridotites[].

A report states that the various endemic Haitian species of Annona may be used as a medicinal plant as in the case of Annona muricata and Annona reticulata[].

Other Uses

The wood is used for fuel and to make charcoal[].
