General Information

Annona gracilis is a shrub growing up to 3 metres tall[].
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a fuel and possibly also as a medicine.
Annona gracilis has a very restricted range in Haiti, where it is only known from one location. Ongoing deforestation is leading to a loss of habitat and decline in habitat quality. The plant is classified as 'Critically Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2020)[].

Cultivation Details

Annona gracilis is a plant of lower elevations in the seasonally dry tropics, with a mean annual rainfall in the range 1,600 - 2,000mm[].
The plant grows in the wild on soils that are derived from hard and soft limestones and occasionally mixed with laterites, bauxites, basalts and peridotites[].

A report states that the various endemic Haitian species of Annona may be used as medicinal plants as in the case of Annona muricata and Annona reticulata[].

The wood is used for fuel and to make charcoal[].
