The thin core of heartwood is reddish-brown; the sapwood an almost white to uniform pale yellow and suggesting West Indian boxwood (Casearia praecox). Texture is uniformly fine; grain is straight; there is no discernible odour or taste. The wood is heavy, strong, and moderately hard; durable, though it is not resistant to insect attacks. It takes a smooth polish with a moderate lustre, and holds its place well when finished. Thre wood is used for doorframes, window sashes, house posts, and other purposes demanding durability and strength[
