Zanthoxylum kleinii is a semideciduous tree with a large, open, rounded crown, growing from 4 - 15 metres tall. The crooked bole often branches from low down, it can be 20 - 30cm in diameter[].
The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use of its wood.
