The genus Vaughania is closely related to Indigofera, and is seen as no more than a synonym of that genus by some authors. The genus Vaughania has been accepted here, but if it is moved back into Indigofera then this species would become Indigofera cloiselii Drake[

A species with an uncommon but relatively broad distribution in southern Madagascar. However, its range is entirely fragmented and declining rapidly. It is is selectively felled for construction purposes. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[
