Paddlewood is a large but slow growing evergreen tree with a narrowish crown. It forms a good, cylindrical bole that can be 100cm in diameter[
The tree is harvested from the wild for its timber.
West tropical Africa - Benin to Nigeria.

The wood is dark orange-red to orange wood, the sapwood and heartwood are not clearly demarcated[

]. It splits well and planes to a smooth surface[
]. It is used for making canoe paddles, furniture, pencils, walking sticks etc[
