General Information

Tylophora fasciculata is a small, slender, much-branched undershrub or twining pubescent herb producing stems 30 - 90cm tall. The rhizome is 25 - 50mm in diameter[].
The plant is sometimes gathered from the wild for local use as a medicine and rat poison.

Known Hazards

The plant is used to poison rats and other vermin[]. There are cases recorded of people dying from ingestion of the root[].

Medicinal

The roots and leaves are emetic and purgative[]. A decoction of the root is said to be efficacious in extremely virulent types of fever[].

The leaves are pounded and used as an application to unhealthy ulcers and wounds to induce healthy granulation[].

Other Uses

The plant is used to poison rats and other vermin[]. Both roots and leaves can be used, but the leaves are more commonly employed, being pounded and then mixed with flour as a bait[].
