Trichilia tuberculata is a tree with a rounded crown and dense foliage growing 20 - 30 metres tall. Large trees, which have straight, cylindrical boles, can be 10 - 60cm in diameter, with small buttresses, and with branches only near the top[

Although the tree reproduces abundantly in the wild, there are seldom any saplings growing close to an adult specimen, whereas there can be concentrations of saplings far from any adult. Apparently there is a fungus associated with adults which tends to kill nearby saplings[
