The plant is rather indifferent to soils in the wild, being found on latosols, sand, sandstone, black soils and seasonally swampy land[

Other Uses
The bark and leaves contain aluminium and are used as a mordant and dyestuff. A decoction can be used to produce red and brown dyes, and is used in the Batik industry in Java and when when dyeing rattans[
