General Information

Stifftia fruticosa is an evergreen shrub or tree with a dense, narrow, elongated crown; it can grow 4 - 6 metres tall. The bole can be 15 - 25cm in diameter with a corky bark[].
A very ornamental plant, especially when in flower, it is sometimes grown in parks and gardens[].

Other Uses

The heartwood and sapwood are not clearly demarcated. The wood is light in weight and with low resistance to wood-eating insects. It is generally to small to be used for anything other than as fuel and to make charcoal[].

Propagation

Seed - best sown as soon as it is ripe in a partially shaded position in a nursery seedbed. Make sure the seeds are viable (non-viable ones are thin and empty), sow them on the surface of the soil and press them down firmly - be careful not to wash them away when watering. A low germination rate can be expected, with the seed sprouting within 60 - 80 days[].
