Shorea megistophylla is a large tree
The tree is harvested from the wild for its good quality resin and wood, which are used locally.
The species was not found during the extensive forest surveys conducted between 1991 and 1996 for the National Conservation Review, suggesting that it is either extremely rare or possibly extinct. The plant is classified as 'Critically Endangered' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[
