Chuchuhuaso can be a tree or, more commonly, a climbing plant producing stems up to 30 metres long that twine into the surrounding vegetation for support[
The plant is harvested from the wild for local use as a food and medicine.
S. America - Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Surinam; C. America - Panama to Mexico.

Fruit - raw. The translucent, jelly-like pulp surrounding the seeds is eaten. The yellow to peach-coloured, globose fruit is around 3cm in diameter, containing around 4 seeds[
