Before the predominance of the Para rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) as a crop, and also before the advent of synthetic rubber, this tree was being cultivated, at least on a small scale, as a rubber crop[
]. It is seldom, if ever, cultivated nowadays.

Grows with other trees amongst sandstone rocks[

A latex obtained from the plant makes a good quality rubber, known as Sao Francisco rubber[
