The tree is harvested from the wild for its good quality wood.
Although parts of this species range are designated nature reserves, the habitat is generally subject to logging and clearance. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2013)[

Found in the wild in sandy, clay or loamy soils. It is reported to be a drought tolerant tree and light-demanding, with natural regeneration occurring in open places[
The wood is durable. A fine timber, it is used in ship, house, bridge building and tool making[
