The tree is sometimes harvested from the wild for local medicinal use, and possibly also as a food condiment.
This species has a fairly small range. The effects of fire, overgrazing, forest management activities and mining have caused declines in the extent of its habitat. The plant is classified as 'Vulnerable' in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species(2011)[
