Diospyros lolin is a tree growing 15 - 30 metres tall. The straight, cylindrical bole can be 40 - 55cm in diameter[, ].
The tree is harvested from the wild for local use as a food, and for commercial exploitation as the source of a high quality wood.

A dioecious species, both male and female forms need to be grown if fruit and seed are required[].

Edible Uses

Fruit - raw or cooked[]. A slimy-mealy flesh[]. The ripe fruits have a flavour that reminds one of hard-fleshed bananas[]. The yellow fruit is a depressed globose berry, the size of an orange, containing 4 - 10 seeds[].
